Laundry House, Dalkeith Country Park: construction of a new car park.

The job

Construction of a new car park at Laundry House, Dalkeith Country Park. A new car park is built from the formation up. The ground is excavated to level, checked for the loading it will carry, and built back in compacted layers before any surfacing goes down. Drainage is worked out alongside the levels so water runs to the gullies and channels across the whole area, and edgings are set to hold the surface in place. Where a site is open to visitors, we keep the working area tight.

About the area

Laundry House is a Category B listed building in Dalkeith Park, according to Historic Environment Scotland. Dalkeith Palace, the country house in Dalkeith, was the seat of the Dukes of Buccleuch from 1642 until 1914. By road the site is about 6 miles from our yard at Bilston Glen, Loanhead.

Nearby work

Within about two miles are Town and King’s Gates, the St Davids Walking Route and Shawfair, all in Dalkeith.
