The Town and King’s Gates, Dalkeith: new bollards, kerbing and surfacing.
The job
We installed new bollards and carried out the associated civils works at the Town and King’s Gates in Dalkeith, including kerbing and surfacing.
About the area
The King’s Gate stands on Old Dalkeith Road, at the north-east edge of Dalkeith in Midlothian, in the Midlothian Council area. Dalkeith is the main administrative centre for Midlothian, with about 15,000 residents. The gates are about 5 miles by road from our yard at Bilston Glen, Loanhead.
Nearby work
Other work in Dalkeith includes the St Davids walking route, the A7 at the Sun Inn, Gorebridge Toll and Shawfair.
What this kind of job involves
Bollards beside historic gateways are usually fitted to stop vehicles clipping or parking against the stonework. Digging near old walls and footings is normally done carefully, often by hand, and services are checked first. Kerbing and surfacing around the bollards need to match the existing levels and finishes so the setting still looks right.
