Shawfair, Dalkeith: carriageway and footway surfacing.
The job
We carried out carriageway and footway surfacing works at Shawfair.
About the area
Shawfair is a new development in Midlothian, in the Midlothian Council area, close to Danderhall, on the site of the former Monktonhall Colliery. The plans cover about 700 acres with around 4,000 homes. The site is about 8 miles by road from our yard at Bilston Glen, Loanhead.
Nearby work
Nearby, we’ve also worked at the Town and King’s Gates, the St Davids walking route and McDonald’s at Cameron Toll.
What this kind of job involves
On a growing housing development, roads are usually built in stages as homes complete. The base and binder course go in early so construction traffic can use them, and the final surface is held back until the builders have finished so it isn’t damaged. Footways follow the kerbing, and everything is built to the standard the council needs before it will adopt the road.
