Murray Milk Farm, Pathhead: surfacing to the farm road.

The job

We surfaced the farm road at Murray Milk Farm, near Pathhead in Midlothian.

About the area

Pathhead is a village in Midlothian, in the Midlothian Council area, about 4 miles south-east of Dalkeith and 11 miles south of Edinburgh, with the A68 as its main road. The A68 crosses the Tyne Water at the village’s north-west entrance. About 950 people live there. It’s about 13 miles by road from our yard at Bilston Glen, Loanhead.

Nearby work

Within a few miles, we’ve also worked at Mayfield Community Campus, the St Davids walking route, Gorebridge Toll and the Co-op car park in Newtongrange.

What this kind of job involves

A farm road carries slow, heavy traffic such as tractors, trailers and feed lorries, so the depth of the base and the drainage matter as much as the surface itself. Work is normally timed around the farming calendar, with access for deliveries and animal movements kept open or arranged in advance. Edges are usually built up so the road doesn’t break away under wide wheels.
