Map showing the location of A7 Sun Inn, Dalkeith

The A7 at the Sun Inn, Dalkeith: wider footpaths, a resurfaced main road, new traffic lights and pedestrian crossings.

The job

We worked with Midlothian Council to widen the footpaths, resurface the main road and install new traffic lights and pedestrian crossings on the A7 at the Sun Inn in Dalkeith.

About the area

The site is on the A7 at Lothianbridge, just outside Dalkeith in Midlothian, in the Midlothian Council area. The A7 is the road south out of Edinburgh, and here it runs beside the River South Esk. The site is about 5 miles by road from our yard at Bilston Glen, Loanhead.

Nearby work

Close by, we’ve also worked on Gorebridge Toll, the Co-op car park in Newtongrange, Mayfield Community Campus and the St Davids walking route.

What this kind of job involves

On a busy A-road, a scheme like this usually runs under temporary traffic signals, with footway and crossing work planned around the peak hours. New signalled crossings need ducting and controller cabinets in before the surface goes down, so the carriageway is normally resurfaced last. That keeps the new kerbs, ironwork and detector loops from being cut up afterwards.
