The job
Layby surfacing works at Stepends. Surfacing starts at the old surface, which is planed back to sound material, with anything that has failed dug out and rebuilt. A bond coat goes down so the new layer keys into what’s beneath, and the material is laid hot and compacted while it’s still hot, so weather and the size of the working area both matter. Where a layby sits beside a live road, traffic management is set up so the work can be done safely.
About the area
Airdrie is a town in North Lanarkshire, 12 miles east of Glasgow, on a plateau 400 ft above sea level. By road the site is about 35 miles from our yard at Bilston Glen, Loanhead.
