Planer loading a tipper truck with milled road surface at Gorebridge Toll

Gorebridge Toll, Midlothian: road planing for Midlothian Council.

The job

We carried out road planing at Gorebridge Toll for Midlothian Council, with a tipper truck taking the milled material away.

About the area

Gorebridge is a village in Midlothian, in the Midlothian Council area, on the A7 south of Newtongrange, with about 8,000 residents. Vogrie Country Park is close by. It’s about 5 miles by road from our yard at Bilston Glen, Loanhead.

Nearby work

On the same side of Dalkeith, we’ve also worked on the A7 at the Sun Inn, the Co-op car park in Newtongrange and Mayfield Community Campus.

What this kind of job involves

Planing takes the worn surface off a road so new asphalt can go down at the right level, and it’s usually done in sections so the road stays open for as long as possible. The milled material is loaded straight onto a tipper and normally taken away for recycling. Cutting back the surface also shows the condition of the layer beneath, which decides whether a resurface is enough.
