JHI Research Centre, Dundee: concrete slabs.

The job

Concrete slabs at the JHI Research Centre. A slab is only as good as what it sits on, so the work begins with the ground. It’s excavated to formation, checked for the loading it has to carry, and built up with a compacted sub-base before any concrete is poured. Falls are set out first so water runs off the slab instead of sitting on it. On a working research site we agree access and the working area in advance, so people there can carry on.

About the area

Dundee is the fourth-largest city in Scotland, on the north bank of the Firth of Tay in the eastern central Lowlands. By road the site is about 67 miles from our yard at Bilston Glen, Loanhead.

Nearby work

B&Q Leven is our nearest project page, about 18 miles south in Fife, with the KDM pothole repairs in Dalgety Bay further south again.
