Hillside Terrace, Selkirk: civils and surfacing for a new junction.

The job

We carried out the civils and surfacing works for a new junction at Hillside Terrace in Selkirk.

About the area

Selkirk is a Scottish Borders town on the Ettrick Water, about 31 miles from Edinburgh, in the Scottish Borders Council area. Hillside Terrace is off the A7. Selkirk is about 40 miles by road from our yard at Bilston Glen, Loanhead.

Nearby work

Our nearest work is Asda in Galashiels. Further north, our road surfacing work includes Mayfield Community Campus in Midlothian.

What this kind of job involves

A new junction means building the road geometry as well as surfacing it: kerb lines and radii, visibility splays, drainage and a clean tie-in to the existing carriageway. On a through road, that tie-in is normally done under temporary traffic management, often with signals, and the surfacing and markings follow once the kerbs and drainage are in.
