Haymarket Junction, Edinburgh: civils, planing, surfacing and road markings.
The job
We carried out civils, planing, surfacing and road markings at Haymarket Junction in Edinburgh.
About the area
Haymarket is an area on the west side of Edinburgh city centre, in the City of Edinburgh council area, where several main roads meet at one junction. The A8 meets Haymarket Yards here. The junction is about 7 miles by road from our yard at Bilston Glen, Loanhead.
Nearby work
In the city, our other work includes the Dalry cobble relaying, Asda Chesser and the Cameron Toll night shift resurfacing.
What this kind of job involves
Junction work in a city centre usually means phased night shifts, with each closure kept as short as the programme allows. Services under the carriageway have to be located and protected before any planing starts, and markings go down as soon as the surface can take them so the junction opens the right way round. Where trams share the road, the working area is agreed with the operator first.
