Haddington Care Home, Haddington: groundworks and access areas at a new care home development.
The job
We carried out groundworks and access areas at a new care home development in Haddington, including a tarmac turning circle.
About the area
Haddington is the county town of East Lothian and the seat of East Lothian Council, on the River Tyne, about half a mile south of the A1 and some 17 miles east of Edinburgh. About 11,000 people live there. By road it’s about 18 miles from our yard at Bilston Glen, Loanhead.
Nearby work
Our nearest work is Murray Milk Farm in Pathhead, with the St Davids walking route and Mayfield Community Campus a little further on in Midlothian.
What this kind of job involves
A care home needs level, well-drained access for ambulances, delivery vehicles and residents with limited mobility, so groundworks are usually planned around gentle gradients and generous turning space. A turning circle lets larger vehicles leave without reversing. Sites like this are normally built in phases, with the access areas finished as the building nears completion.
